Hildur Gudnadottir has been hired to score the upcoming Joker origin movie. Todd Phillips (The Hangover, Old School, Starsky & Hutch, War Dogs) will direct the film, which is set to star Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, alongside Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron. The movie based on the DC Comics character is reportedly set in Gotham City in the early 1980s. No plot details have been announced yet. Phillips has also co-written the screenplay with Scott Silver (The Fighter, 8 Mile) and is producing the project with Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Wolf of Wall Street, Silence). Joker is set to be released on October 4, 2019 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Gudnadottir whose previous scoring credits include this year’s Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Mary Magdalene (co-scored with Johann Johannsson), as well as Strong Island and A Hijacking is currently scoring the upcoming HBO/Sky limited series Chernobyl starring Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard & Emily Watson. She will also return to co-score the second season of Baltasar Kormakur’s Icelandic TV series Trapped (with Rutger Hoedemaekers). She previously co-scored the show’s first season with Johann Johannsson.
