James Edward Barker has been hired to score the upcoming drama Lean on Pete. The film is written and directed by Andrew Haigh (45 Years, Looking, Weekend) and stars Charlie Plummer, Steve Buscemi, Chloe Sevigny, Travis Fimmel, Steve Zahn, Amy Seimetz, and Thomas Mann. The movie is based on Willy Vlautin’s novel of the same title and follows a fifteen-year-old boy who takes a summer job with a washed-up horse trainer and befriends a failing racehorse named Lean On Pete. Tristan Goligher (45 Years) is producing the project for The Bureau. Lean on Pete is currently in post-prodcution and is expected to premiere later this year.
Barker (Heist, Precious Cargo, Don’t Knock Twice) also has the supernatural horror thriller Mara coming up. The film is directed by Clive Tonge and stars Olga Kurylenko and Javier Botet. The movie revolves around a criminal psychologist who is assigned to the murder of a man who has seemingly been strangled in his sleep by his wife and the only witness is their eight-year-old daughter. Barker also serves as producer on the film, which is expected to be released later in 2017.
