Atli Örvarsson confirmed on his website that he has been hired to score the upcoming historical drama The Eagle of the Ninth. The movie stars Channing Tatum, Mark Strong, Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland. The film takes place in 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, when a young centurion arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father who commanded the team. The movie is directed by Kevin Macdonald, who previously worked with composer Alex Heffes on his features Touching The Void, The Last King of Scotland and State of Play. Focus Features is planning to release the movie on September 24.
This news follows the announcement that Örvarsson is no longer scoring The Karate Kid. As reported earlier, Örvarsson’s score for Season of the Witch has just been released by Relativity Media, while the movie is still awaiting a theatrical release date.
