Benjamin Wallfisch has been tapped to score the upcoming horror thriller Rings. The film is directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) and stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio. The movie is the third part in the Ring franchise and follows a young woman who becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. David Loucka (Dream House), Jacob Estes (Mean Creek) and Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend, I, Robot) have written the screenplay. Walter Parks (Minority Report, Sneakers) and Laurie MacDonald (Men in Black, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Flight) are producing the project. Hans Zimmer who scored Gore Verbinski’s original 2002 film serves as the executive music producer.Rings will be released nationwide on October 28, 2016 by Paramount Pictures. Wallfisch whose previous scoring credits include this year’s Lights Out, Desert Dancer, Summer in February and The Escapist also has Gore Verbinski’s A Cure for Wellness coming up. His other upcoming projects also include the James Wan-produced horror thriller Within and the drama Bitter Harvest starring Max Irons & Samantha Barks, which was recently picked up by Roadside Attractions for domestic distribution.
