John Swihart has been hired to score the upcoming ABC comedy Cristela. The show is created by Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing) and stand-up comedienne Cristela Alonzo who also stars in the series alongside Carlos Ponce, Terri Hoyos, Andrew Leeds, Sam McMurray. The comedy follows an American Latina law student who hopes to land a prestigious law firm internship as her mother hectors her about getting a real job, her brother-in-law encourages her to move out and her sister runs low on patience. Hench and Alonzo are also executive producing the 20th Century Fox TV and 21 Laps-Adelstein production with Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel, Date Night), Becky Clements (Last Man Standing) and Marty Adelstein (Hanna, Prison Break). Swihart whose previous credits include the hit comedy How I Met Your Mother and the feature Napoleon Dynamite also continues to score ABC Family’s Switched at Birth. The composer also recently composed the music for the indie comedy drama The Young Kieslowski directed by Kerem Sanga and starring Ryan Malgarini, Haley Lu Richardson, Melora Walters, Joshua Malina, James Le Gros, Osric Chau and Jessica Lu. The movie premiered at this year’s Los Angeles Film Festival, where it won the Best Narrative Feature Audience Award and is currently awaiting a distribution deal.
