George Fenton is reuniting with director Ken Loach on the upcoming drama Jimmy’s Hall. The movie stars Barry Ward in the title role, alongside Simone Kirby, Jim Norton, Brían O’Byrne and Andrew Scott. The movie is set in 1932 and follows Irish communist leader James Gralton who returns from a decade in New York to re-open the dance hall he built in 1921. Paul Laverty has written the screenplay and Rebecca O’Brien who regularly works with Loach is producing the Sixteen Films, Element Pictures, Why Not Productions and Wild Bunch production. It has been announced that the project will likely be Loach’s final narrative feature. Fenton has previously collaborated with the director on most of his films in the past two decades, including such titles as The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Sweet Sixteen and The Angel’s Share. Jimmy’s Hall is rumored to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May and will be released in the UK on May 30, 2014.
Fenton also has the Disneynature documentary Bears coming up next month. The composer has also scored Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem, which has recently been picked up by Well Go USA Entertainment for a domestic release later this year.
