John Tavener has passed away at age 69. The British composer was best known for his concert work, but also worked on a couple of major films, most notably Alfonso Cuaron’s 2006 movie Children of Men. Tavener also composed the music for the international co-production Battle in Heaven directed by Carlos Reygadas and Werner Herzog’s documentary short Pilgrimage. The composer’s concert music was also used in a number of films, including Terence Malick’s The Tree of Life. He received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2000 for services to music.Tavener died at his home in Child Okeford, Southern England.
