Dominik Scherrer (The Tourist, The Missing, The Widow, Miss Austen, Baptiste, Ripper Street, Primeval, The Serpent, The Assassin, The Confessions of Frannie Langton) has recently scored the new BBC drama The Rapture. The show is written by Bryony Kimmings (Last Christmas) & Rebecca Manley based on Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel of the same title and stars Ruth Madeley, India Amarteifio, Sam Hazeldine, Iwan Rheon, Stephen Campbell Moore, Jack Farthing, Lisa Palfrey, Siena Kelly, Naby Dakhli, Dean Rehman, Richard Elis, Robert Rhodes and Ruth Jones. The 5-part psychological thriller follows a child psychologist recovering from a car crash that killed her husband and left her paralyzed who takes a job working in a maximum security facility for juvenile patients, where she meets the unit’s most disturbed patient who was found guilty of brutally murdering her mother and claims to have psychic powers. Madeley is also executive producing the Mammoth Screen production with Rebecca Durbin, Tom Leggett (Code of Silence, Betrayal), Damien Timmer (Poldark, Victoria) and Danielle Scott-Haughton (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, Towards Zero). The Rapture will premiere in the UK this Sunday, July 26 on BBC One and will also be available to stream on the BBCiPlayer.
Scherrer’s other recent projects include the Italian/German drama The Girl with the Leica (La ragazza con la Leica) directed by Alina Marazzi and starring Emilia Schüle, Aaron Altaras, Luna Wedler, Lucas Englander, Sebastian Schneider and Thomas Schubert. The movie, which centers on pioneering German-Jewish war photographer Gerda Taro, will premiere as the opening night film of this year’s Venice Film Festival’s Horizons section.
