Composer Carter Burwell (Carol, Fargo, True Grit, Twilight, The Blind Side, Being John Malkovich, Burn After Reading, Anomalisa, Three Kings) is reteaming with director Martin McDonagh on the upcoming comedy drama Wild Horse Nine. The film is written and directed by McDonagh and stars John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Mariana di Girolamo, Tom Waits, Ailín Salas and Parker Posey. The movie takes place shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup and follows two CIA agents who are dispatched from Santiago to Easter island, where a newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students threatens to send everyone’s trip to this remote paradise sideways. McDonagh is also producing the project with Graham Broadbent & Pete Czernin (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Emma) and Anita Overland (Blitz, The Beautiful Game). Burwell has previously scored the director’s features In Bruges & Seven Psychopaths, as well as Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri & The Banshees of Inisherin, for which he received Academy Award nominations. Wild Horse Nine will be released in theaters on November 6, 2026 by Searchlight Pictures.
