Volker Bertelmann (Conclave, All Quiet on the Western Front, Lion, Dune: Prophecy, The Amateur, Hotel Mumbai, Adrift, One Life) has composed the original music for the upcoming thriller The Dead of Winter. The film is directed by Brian Kirk (21 Bridges, The Day of the Jackal) and stars Emma Thompson, Judy Greer, Marc Menchaca, Gaia Wise, Laurel Marsden, Cúán Hosty-Blaney, Paul Hamilton, Dalton Leeb, Lloyd Hutchinson and Brían F. O’Byrne. The movie follows widowed a fisherwoman traveling alone through snowbound northern Minnesota who interrupts the kidnapping of a teenage girl and – hours from the nearest town and without phone service – realizes she is the young girl’s only hope. Nicholas Jacobson-Larson and Dalton Leeb wrote the screenplay. Greg Silverman (Subservience, Space Cadet), Jon Berg (Elf, A Minecraft Movie) and Augenschein Filmproduktion’s Jonas Katzenstein (700) & Maximilian Leo (The Assessement) are producing the project. Bertelmann has previously scored Augenschein’s Stowaway, Home, The Dive and A Sacrifice. The Dead of Winter will premiere this Friday at the Locarno Film Festival and is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on September 26 by Vertical.
