Volker Bertelmann (All Quiet on the Western Front, Lion, Adrift, Hotel Mumbai, The Old Guard, Patrick Melrose, Ammonite) has recently been scoring the upcoming thriller The Amateur. The film is directed by James Hawes (Slow Horses, Black Mirror: Hated in the Nation/Smithereens) and stars Rami Malek, Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jon Bernthal, Holt McCallany, Adrian Martinez, Julianne Nicholson and Danny Sapani. The movie is based on the novel by Robert Littell and follows a brilliant and introverted decoder for the CIA whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands. Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down, Only the Brave) and Gary Spinelli (American Made) wrote the screenplay. Malek is also producing the project with Hutch Parker (Logan, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Dan Wilson (Home Sweet Home Alone) and Joel B. Michaels (Stargate, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines). Bertelmann has previously scored Hawes’ last feature, One Life. The Amateur will be released in theaters nationwide on April 11, 2025 by 20th Century Studios.
Bertelmann’s other recent projects include Edward Berger’s Conclave, which is currently playing in theaters nationwide, HBO’s Dune: Prophecy, which will premiere this coming Sunday and Sky’s The Day of the Jackal, which is making its U.S. premiere tomorrow on Peacock.
