Cornel Wilczek (Talk to Me, These Final Hours, Clickbait, Glitch, Nowhere Boys) & Thomas Rouch (Riptide, Avarice, Fires, With Intent) have teamed up to score the new Australian Paramount+ original movie The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race. The film is directed by Lynn Hegarty and stars Claire van der Boom, Katie Wall, Genevieve Lemon, Tiriel Mora, Robyn Nevin, Rohan Nichol, Andy Ryan, Cecelia Peters, John Batchelor, Darren Gilshenan and John Gaden. The comedy drama follows a woman who returns to her childhood home just in time for the world famous’ potato race and unleashes a cultural war the likes never seen in the sleepy the small town. Melanie Tait wrote the screenplay based on the her own play. Andrea Keir (Come Away) and Lisa Duff (Last Cab to Darwin, Last Train to Freo) are producing the Congalite and EQ Media production. The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race will debut in Australia on July 26, 2023 on Channel 10/10 Play before premiering the following day on Paramount+.
Wilczek’s other recent projects include Danny & Michael Philippou’s horror film Talk to Me, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in theaters nationwide on July 28 by A24.
