Haim Mazar (The Iceman, Sneakerheads, Woke, The Taking of Deborah Logan, I Am Wrath) has been tapped to score the upcoming southern noir thriller Desperation Road. The film is directed by Nadine Crocker and stars Garrett Hedlund, Mel Gibson, Willa Fitzgerald, Ryan Hurst, Kat Foster, Woody McClain and Pyper Braun. The movie follows an ex-con who attempts to rebuild his life with help from his father, but when a young woman arrives and throws his life into chaos, the pair end up on the run. Michael Farris Smith wrote the screenplay. Crocker & Smith are also producing the project with Cassian Elwes (The Butler, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) and Walter Josten (Witchboard, Driven). Mazar has previously co-scored Crocker’s first feature Continue (with Asaf Sagiv). Desperation Road is expected to be released later this year.
Mazar has also recently scored the sci-thriller Gray Matter directed by Meko Winbush and starring Jessica Frances Dukes, Mia Isaac and Garret Dillahunt. The movie revolves around a mother with superhuman abilities who attempts to train her daughter, when a tragic incident finds the daughter in control of her fate. Phil Gelatt (Europa Report) wrote the screenplay. Jeanette Volturno, Yolanda T. Cochran and Jessica Malanaphy are producing the CatchLight Studios production. Issa Rae serves as an executive producer. Gray Matter will premiere on July 13 on Max. A docuseries about Winbush’s journey making the film will debut in the form of a new season of HBO’s Project Greenlight on the same day.
