Bear McCreary (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, 10 Cloverfield Lane) has composed the original music for the upcoming supernatural horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The film is directed by André Øvredal (Scary Stories We Tell in the Dark, The Autopsy of Jane Doe) and stars Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon Briones, Nikolai Nikolaeff, Stefan Kapicic and Javier Botet. The DreamWorks Pictures and Amblin Entertainment production is based on a single chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula and tells the story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo – fifty unmarked wooden crates – from Carpathia to London. Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room), Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters) and Zak Olkewicz (Bullet Train) wrote the screenplay. Brad Fischer (Zodiac, Suspiria)) and Mike Medavoy & Arnold Messer (Shutter Island, Black Swan) are producing the project. Thomas Newman was originally attached to score the movie when it was scheduled to open in theaters this past January, but had left the project by late 2022 when we first heard about the replacement. The Last Voyage of the Demeter is set to be released on August 11, 2023 by Universal Pictures.
McCreary also continues to score Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which will return for a second season, Starz’s Outlander, which just launched its seventh season last week, and Apple TV+’s Foundation, which will return for its second season on July 14.
