James Newton Howard (The Sixth Sense, King Kong, Signs, The Fugitive, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Maleficent, The Village) is returning to score the upcoming ilm adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The movie is directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine) and stars Joseph Zada, Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Mckenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Maya Hawke and Kelvin Harrison Jr. The sixth installment in the The Hunger Games feature series is set 24 years before the events of the 2011 original movie, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Billy Ray (Captain Phillips, Breach) wrote the screenplay. Howard has previously scored the first four The Hunger Games movies and also collaborated with Lawrence on the features I Am Legend, Water for Elephants and Red Sparrow. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be released in theaters nationwide on November 20, 2026 by Lionsgate.
As previously reported, Howard is also involved in scoring Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth!, which is expected to be released in late 2026.
