Yoshihiro Hanno (Mountains May Depart, The Best Is Yet to Come, Winter Boy, Revolver Lily) has been tapped to score the upcoming Japanese period drama Kokurojo: The Samurai and the Prisoner. The film is written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cloud, Wife of a Spy) and stars Masahiro Motoki, Masaki Suda, Yuriko Yoshitaka, Munetaka Aoki, Tasuku Emoto, Ryota Miyadate and Joe Odagiri. The movie based Honobu Yonezawa’s historical novel of the same title is set in 16th century Japan and follows Lord Murashige Araki who rises up against the tyrannical Nobunaga Oda and finds himself besieged within the walls of his own castle. The project is produced by Shochiku and Tokyo Broadcasting System Television. Kokurojo: The Samurai and the Prisoner will be released in Japanese theaters this year and has been sold to several international markets. No domestic release has been announced yet. (Variety)
