Joseph Trapanese (OblivionThe Witcher, Shadow and BoneStraight Outta Compton, The Greatest Showman, The Raid: RedemptionG20) has composed the original score for the upcoming animated musical David. The film is directed by Phil Cunningham & Brent Dawes (Jungle Beat) and stars Phil Wickham as the adult David and actor, dancer, and singer Brandon Engman who voices David as a youth, as well as Brian Stivale as Smauel. The animated family adventure tells the biblical story of David – warrior, poet, shepherd, and eventual king – whose faith and courage changed the course of nations. Cunnigham is also producing the  Sunrise Animation Studios production with Jacqui Cunningham, Tim Keller and Rita Mbanga. David will be released in theaters nationwide on December 19, 2025 by Angel Studios.

Trapanese’s other recent feature projects include Peter Atencio’s Animal Friends, which will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026. He also continues to score NBC’s Brilliant Minds, which currently airs in its second season every Monday night, as well as Netflix’s The Witcher, which will return for its fourth season next Thursday, October 30.
