Alan Bergman (1925-2025)

Alan Bergman passed away last night at age 99 at his home in Los Angeles. Together with his late wife Marilyn, the songwriter/lyricist wrote dozens of songs for film and television and won three Academy Awards for the songs The Windmills of Your Mind from Norman Jewison’s The Thomas Crown Affair, The Way We Were from Sydney Pollack’s movie of the same title, as well as the (song) score from 1983’s Yentl. His 16 Oscar nominations also include songs from Tootsie, Sydney Pollack’s Sabrina, Yes, Giorgio, Shirley ValentineBest Friends, The Happy Ending, The Life and Times of Judge Roy BeanSame Time, Next Year and The Promise. He also received multiple Grammy and Emmy Awards and nominations. Among his regular collaborators were composers John Williams, Quincy Jones, Marvin Hamlisch, James Newton Howard, Michel Legrand and Dave Grusin. Bergman is survived by a daughter and granddaughter.
