Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek, The Martian, Gladiator 2, Chicken Run, Mulan, The Meg) has recently been scoring the upcoming National Geographic documentary series Underdogs. Rock superstars Green Day wrote the original theme song, entitled Underdog (featured in the trailer embedded below), for the show narrated by Ryan Reynolds. The 5-parter centers on the outcasts of the animal kingdom with each episode showcasing a different aspect of these underdogs’ bizarre mating strategies, surprising superpowers, deception, dubious parenting skills and gross-out behaviors. Mark Linfield & Vanessa Berlowitz (Tiger, Elephant) and Dan Rees are executive producing the project for Wildstar, alongside Reynolds, Patrick Gooing , Ashley Fox (Promising Young Woman, Babes) & Patrick Gooing for Maximum Effort, as well as Tracy Rudolph Jackson and Bengt Anderson. Gregson-Williams has previously collaborated with Linfield on Disneynature’s features Monkey Kingdom and Penguins. Underdogs will premiere on June 15 on National Geographic and ABC and will be available to stream the following day on Hulu and Disney+. A soundtrack album featuring Gregson-Williams’ score will be released on June 13 by Hollywood Records.
Gregson-Williams also continues to co-score HBO’s The Gilded Age, which will return for its third season on June 22.
