Daniel Hart (The Green Knight, Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story, The Old Man & the Gun, Peter Pan & Wendy, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) has composed the original music for the upcoming thriller The Dutchman. The film is directed by Andre Gaines (The One and Only Dick Gregory, After Jackie) and stars André Holland, Kate Mara, Zazie Beetz, Aldis Hodge, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Lauren E. Banks. The movie based on the 1964 play of the same title by Amiri Baraka is set on a New York subway and centers on an encounter between a a successful, but troubled black businessman and a seductive white woman who match wits in a sexualized game of cat and mouse that leads to a violent conclusion. Gaines also co-wrote the screenplay with Qasim Basir (A Boy. A Girl. A Dream., Destined). He is also producing the project with Jonathan T. Baker (The Banker, Sylvie’s Love). The Dutchman will premiere this March at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival.
As previously reported, Hart also has Daniel Lowery’s Mother Mary coming up. He also continues to score AMC’s Interview with the Vampire, which will return for a third season.
