Tony Kanal (of the rock bands No Doubt and Dreamcar) is scoring the new ABC comedy Shifting Gears. The show is created by Mike Scully & Julie Thacker Scully (The Simpsons, Duncanville) and stars Tim Allen, Kat Dennings, Seann William Scott, Daryl Mitchell, Barrett Margolis and Maxwell Simkins. The series follows a stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration whose life gets turned upside down when his estranged daughter and her kids move into his house. Allen is also executive producing the 20th Television production with showrunner Michelle Nader (2 Broke Girls, Dollface), Marty Adelstein & Becky Clements (One Piece, Snowpiercer), Jim Patterson (The Ranch, Two and a Half Men), Bob Daily (Desperate Houswifes, The Wonder Years) and Rick Messina, Richard Baker & John Amodeo (Last Man Standing), as well as John Pasquin (The Santa Clause, Joe Somebody) who also directed the pilot episode, which is also executive produced by the creators. Kanal has previously scored the second season of Freeform’s Single Drunk Female and also co-scored the 2022 Netflix film Purple Hearts (with Blake Neely). Shifting Gears will premiere tomorrow, January 8 on ABC and will also be available to stream on Hulu the next day.
