Tim Rice (The Lion King, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Road to El Dorado) has revealed in a recent interview with The Irish News that he is co-writing new original songs for the upcoming film adaptation of the stage musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Andrew Lloyd Webber (The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Evita). Jon M. Chu (Wicked, Crazy Rich Asians) is attached to direct the movie based on the duo’s Tony Award-winning show, which tells the biblical story of Jacob’s favorite son Joseph and his eleven brothers and which premiered in the West End in 1972 and on Broadway in 1983. Scott Sanders (The Color Purple, The Odd Life of Timothy Green) and Mara Jacobs (In the Heights) are producing the project for SGS Pictures and Chu and Lance Johnson (Thai Cave Rescue) are producing for Electric Somewhere. Rice & Lloyd Webber also serve as executive producers. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is currently in development and will be released by Amazon MGM Studios.

  1. Louis Kirkwood says:

As long as they don’t screw it up, I’m game for this one. It’s one of my favourite musicals by Andrew and Tim, I grew up with the 1999 filmed version when I was a little kid. I hope they get Hans Zimmer or/and John Powell to be re-orchestring the songs, along with some original score cues like what John did for ‘Wicked’.
