Composer Jay Wadley (I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Tell Me Lies, Swan Song, Franklin, Before, I Carry You with Me) is reteaming with director Andrew Ahn on the upcoming romantic comedy The Wedding Banquet. The film is based on Ang Lee’s 1993 feature of the same title and stars Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, Kelly Marie Tran, Joan Chen,Han Gi-chan and Youn Yuh-jung. The movie follows a commitment-phobic boyfriend who makes a proposal: a green card marriage with his friend in exchange for expensive in vitro fertilization treatments for her partner, but plans change when his grandmother surprises them with an elaborate Korean wedding. Ahn also co-wrote the screenplay with James Schamus (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Ice Storm). Schamus is also producing the project with Anita Gou (The Farewell, Honey Boy), Joe Pirro (We Grown Now) and Caroline Clark (Behind the Curve). Wadley has previously scored Ahn’s last two features, Driveways and Fire Island and collaborated with Schamus on the writer/producer’s directorial debut Indignation. The Wedding Banquet will premiere at next year’s Sundance Film Festival before being released in theaters later in 2025 by Bleecker Street.
Wadley’s upcoming feature projects also include Josh Ruben’s Heart Eyes, which will be open in theaters on February 7, 2025.
