Composer Daniel Hart is reteaming with director David Lowery on the upcoming Disney+ animated short An Almost Christmas Story. The film is directed by Lowery and features the voices of Cary Christopher, Estella Madrigal, Jim Gaffigan, Alex Ross Perry, Mamoudou Athie, Gianna Joseph, Phil Rosenthal, Natasha Lyonne, as well as John C. Reilly as “The Folk Singer” who performs four songs in the short, two of which are original songs. The short follows a curious young owl who unexpectedly finds himself stuck in a Christmas tree destined for Rockefeller Plaza and befriends a lost young girl while attempting to escape the bustling city. Jack Thorne (Enola Holmes, His Dark Materials) wrote the screenplay based on a story by himself and Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men) who is also producing the Disney Branded Television and Esperanto Film production with Gabriela Rodríguez (Roma, Disclaimer). Hart has previously scored all of Lowery’s movies, including Disney’s Pete’s Dragon & Peter Pan & Wendy, as well as Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, The Old Man & the Gun, A Ghost Story and The Green Knight. An Almost Christmas Story will premiere this fall on Disney+.
Hart is also collaborating with Lowery on the director’s next feature Mother Mary, which is expected to premiere in 2025. He also continues to score AMC’s Interview with the Vampire, which will return for its third season next year.
