Pharrell Williams has written five original songs for the animated documentary Piece by Piece. Song titles include Piece by Piece (feat. Princess Anne High School Fabulous Marching Cavaliers), It’s Happening (co-written with Shelly Berg), Virginia Boy (feat. Shae Haley), the closing credit song For Real, as well as L’Ego Odyssey (co-written with Shelly Berg), a multi-part suite that appears in different portions across the film. The movie also features numerous hit songs by the Grammy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated singer/songwriter (including Drop It Like It’s Hot & Happy), deconstructed, remixed, and remade for the project. Piece by Piece is directed by Morgan Neville and tells Williams’ life story through LEGO pieces featuring the voices of Williams himself, Kendrick Lamar, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg & others. The documentary (scored by Michael Andrews) is premiering this weekend at the Telluride Film Festival and will be released in theaters on October 11 by Focus Features.
