Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout & Dead Reckoning, Black Widow, Bad Boys for Life, Top Gun: Maverick, His Dark Materials, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F) & Stuart Michael Thomas (Midnight Bayou, Northern Lights, Bustin’ Down the Door, Blue Smoke) have composed the original music for the upcoming boxing drama The Cut. The film is directed by Sean Ellis (Anthropoid, Cashback) and stars Orlando Bloom, John Turturro and Caitríona Balfe. The movie follows a retired fighter who is obsessed with getting back in the ring and goes through a grueling and unsanctioned weight cut program with a coach who knows no limits. Justin Bull (A Banquet) wrote the screenplay based on a story by Mark Lane (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night) who is also producing the project with Bloom, James Harris (Resident Evil: Welcome to the Raccoon City, The Informer) and Adam Karasick (3:10 To Yuma) of Amazing Owl. Balfe has previously collaborated with Ellis on the 2022 gothic thriller The Cursed. The Cut will premiere this September at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
Balfe’s other upcoming projects include Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning sequel, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 23, 2025, as well as the third season of Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time, which is also expected to premiere in 2025.
