Last night, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) held its annual Film, TV & Visual Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Ramin Djawadi was named BMI Icon in recognition of his outstanding body of work across film, television and video games. The composer whose scoring credits include such films as Iron Man, Pacific Rim, Eternals, The Man from Toronto, Blade: Trinity & Clash of the Titans, TV shows including Game of Thrones, Westworld, Fallout & Prison Break, as well as the video games Medal of Honor, Gears of War 4 & Gears 5, was presented the award by BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill who hosted the evening with BMI Vice President, Creative, Film, TV & Visual Media, Tracy McKnight.
George R.R. Martin and Game of Thrones & 3 Body Problem showrunners David Benioff & Dan Weiss, Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy, director Ava DuVernay who collaborated with the composer on Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, Charles Roven who produced the Djawadi-scored Warcraft, The Great Wall & Uncharted, House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, music supervisor Evyen Klean, agents Michael Gorfaine & Sam Schwartz, among others, congratulated Djawadi via a tribute video. The composer thanked his team, mentors Hans Zimmer & Klaus Badelt and then his son and daughter to the stage and thanked his wife for being a driving force in his family’s life. Throughout the evening, composers of music featured in the past year’s most successful films, highest rated series on TV, cable and streaming services were also celebrated. For the first time in the ceremony’s 40-year history, the most popular video games of the previous year were announced. Five first-time award winners including Ted Reedy (Diablo IV), chuck e. myers “sea & J. Scott Rakozy (Hogwart’s Legacy), Stephen Barton (Star Wars Jedi: Survivor) and Inon Zur (Starfield) accepted their awards in the new category. Click here for the full list of BMI Award winners.
