The Academy’s Board of Governors has approved rules and campaign regulations for the 97th Academy Awards, including two changes in the Original Score category. The new rules state that “three composers will be allowed to receive individual statuettes if, in rare circumstances, they all contributed fully to the score. Previously, three composers were required to submit as a group. The rules now clarify the definition of a group as a recognized band. The shortlist will increase from 15 to 20 titles”. Visit Oscars.org for the full list of rules and regulations. Submission deadline for both song and score categories has been set for November 1, 2024. The 97th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

So, in the case of Soul where three composers won, who would receive the statuettes? Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross or Jon Batiste? Who “did more” in that case?
everyone gets one, that’s how I read it.
Why 20 scores in the shortlist? Of the 10 films that were left without a nomination in this category, 9 got nominations in another category and the last one (Saltburn) obtained nominations at the Golden Globes and Bafta. This category is dominated by the carryover effect.
