Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Emma, The Manchurian Candidate, Never Let Me Go, One Day) has teamed up with Jon Ehrlich (House, Parenthood, The Resident, Life, Invasion, About a Boy) to score the new Hulu limited series We Were the Lucky Ones. Portman has also contributed the main title theme to the show developed by Erica Lipez (Julia) based on Georgia Hunter’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same title and starring Joey King, Logan Lerman, Hadas Yaron, Amit Rahav, Henry-Lloyd Hughes, Sam Woolf, Moran Rosenblatt, Michael Aloni, Eva Feiler, Lior Ashkenazi and Robin Weigert. The 8-part drama tells the true story of a Jewish family who is determined to survive and reunite after being separated in World War II. Lipez is also executive producing the 20th Century Television production with Jennifer Todd (Alice in Wonderland, Austin Powers), Adam Milch (The Morning Show, Twisted), as well as Thomas Kail (Fosse/Verdon, World’s Best) who also directed the first and final episodes. We Were the Lucky Ones will premiere next Thursday, March 28 on Hulu. Portman’s theme will be released as a digital single next Friday, March 29 (check out the cover art below) and a full soundtrack album is expected to come out in the following weeks.
Portman was also attached to score the historical epic series King Shaka, which was canceled by Showtime just before the end of principal photography last year and is reportedly been looking for a new home.
