Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Ozark, Enemy, The Outsider, The White Tiger, The Devil All the Time, The Staircase, Tokyo Vice) have provided the original score for the upcoming comedy Y2K. The film marks the directorial debut of Kyle Mooney (Saturday Night Live, Brigsby Bear) and stars Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, Daniel Zolghadri, Lachlan Watson, Mason Gooding and The Kid Laroi. The movie takes place on the last night of 1999 and follows two high school juniors as they crash a New Years Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives. Mooney also co-wrote the screenplay with Evan Winter who is producing the project with Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, Alison Goodwin (Stutz, You People), Chris Storer (Eighth Grade, The Bear) and Cooper Wehde. Bensi & Jurriaans have previously scored the Storer-produced 2020 feature The Rental. Y2K will premiere tonight at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival and is expected to be released in theaters later this year by A24.
The composers’ other recent feature projects include Brian Crano’s & David Craig’s I Don’t Understand You, which just premiered yesterday at SXSW.
