Robert Del Naja (aka 3D) of the trip hop collective Massive Attack has composed the original music for the upcoming Italian historical drama Comandante. The film is directed by Edoardo De Angelis (Indivisible, Perez) and stars Pierfrancesco Favino, Massimiliano Rossi, Silvia D’Amico, Johan Heldenbergh, Arturo Muselli and Giuseppe Brunetti. The movie tells the true story of  Commander Salvatore Todaro who saved the lives of enemy sailors who had survived the sinking of their merchant ship during World War II. De Angelis also co-wrote the screenplay with Sandro Verones (Quiet Chaos, The Hummingbird). The project is produced by Indigo Film, O’Groove, Tramp LTD, V-Groove and Wise Pictures. Del Naja has previously co-scored Stuart Townsend’s Battle in Seattle, the documentary Trouble the Water & Saul Dibb’s Bullet Boy (with Neil Davidge), as well as Charles Officer’s 2020 feature Akilla’s Escape (with Saul Williams). Comandante will premiere this coming Wednesday, August 30 as the opening night movie of the 2023 Venice Film Festival and will be released in Italian theaters later this year. No domestic distribution deal has been set yet.
