Nick Urata (Paddington, Crazy, Stupid, Love., Ruby Sparks, I Love You Phillip Morris, Love the Coopers) has provided the original score to the upcoming comedy Quiz Lady. The film is directed by Jessica Yu (In the Realms of the Unreal, Last Call at the Oasis) and stars Awkwafina, Sandra Oh, Jason Schwartzman, Tony Hale, Holland Taylor and Will Ferrell. The movie revolves around two very different sisters who are forced to pay off their mother’s gambling debts by concocting a scheme to go on a quiz show. Jen D’Angelo (Hocus Pocus 2) wrote the screenplay. D’Angelo, Awkwafina, Oh and Ferrell are also producing the 20th Century Studios production with Jessica Elbaum (Hustlers, Booksmart), Maggie Haskins and Itay Reiss (Like a Boss, Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens). Quiz Lady will premiere next month at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and is set to debut on November 3, 2023 on Hulu.
Urata is also expected to return to score the second season of Fox’s Animal Control and is attached to compose the music for the animated feature Stitch Head. He also recently scored Luke Gilford’s National Anthem, which premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date.
