Carter Burwell (Carol, The Banshees of Inisherin, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Twilight) has recently been scoring the upcoming caper comedy Drive-Away Dolls. The film marks the first solo feature directorial effort of Ethan Coen and stars Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Beanie Feldstein, Colman Domingo, Pedro Pascal and Matt Damon. The movie follows an uninhibited free spirit and her demure friend in search of a fresh start as they embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way. Coen also co-wrote the screenplay Tricia Cooke. Coen & Cooke are also producing the project with Robert Graf (Battle of the Sexes, Bombshell), as well as Working Title’s Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, Baby Driver). Burwell has previously scored most of Ethan & Joel Coen’s films, including Fargo, True Grit, The Big Lebowski, Blood Simple, Raising Arizona and Burn After Reading. Drive-Away Dolls is set to be released in theaters on September 22, 2023 by Focus Features.
Burwell’s other recent projects include Brian Helgeland’s Finestkind and Damián Szifron’s To Catch a Killer, which will open in theaters this Friday, April 21. He also continues to score Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, which will return for its third season this year.
