Deadline is reporting that Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is set to direct Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the 1970 animated classic The Aristocats. He will also oversee the music for the movie, which follows a pedigreed cat and her kittens who are catnapped by a greedy butler. Will Gluck (Peter Rabbit, Easy A) is producing the project and is also co-writing the screenplay with Keith Bunin (Onward, Horns). Questlove also serves as an executive producer, alongside Tarik Trotter, Shawn Gee & Zarah Zohlman for Two One Five Entertainment. The Academy Award-winning director of the 2021 documentary Summer of Love has previously served as the executive music producer of Chris Rock’s Top Five (which he also co-scored with Ludwig Goransson), the 2016 limited series Roots and the Disney Junior short-form animated series Rise Up, Sing Out and also composed the music for the 2016 feature Vincent N Roxxy. No release date has been announced yet for The Aristocats.
