Burt Bacharach (1928-2023)

Burt Bacharach has passed away yesterday at age 94. The Grammy Award-winning songwriter/composer and pianist has written hundreds of songs throughout his career, including numerous tracks written specifically for films and also composed several film scores. He won his first two Academy Awards for the song Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head (with Hal David) and the score from George Roy Hill’s western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1970 and received another Oscar a decade later for Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do) from Steve Gordon’s Arthur. He was also Academy Award-nominated for the song The Look of Love from 1967’s Casino Royale and the title songs from 1966’s Alfie and 1965’s What’s New, Pussycat?. His other film scoring credits include Ron Howard’s Night Shift, Charles Jarrott’s Lost Horizon and Andrew Bergman’s Isn’t She Great. His final feature film score was John Hesher’s 2016 drama A Boy Called Po. Bacharach is survived by his wife Jane and three children.
