Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, The Dark Knight, Inception, Gladiator, Dune, Interstellar, Pirates of the Caribbean) has recently been scoring the upcoming coming-of-age comedy drama Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. The film is written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig and stars Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates. The movie is based on Judy Blume’s best-selling book of the same name and revolves around a sixth-grade girl who is going through puberty and searches the universe for any answers she can find. Fremon Craig & Blume are also producing the project with James L. Brooks (Terms of Endearment), Richard Sakai (Jerry Maguire), Julie Ansell (Riding in Cars with Boys) & Amy Brooks for Gracie Films. Zimmer has previously served as the score producer on the Fremon Craig-directed and Brooks-produced feature The Edge of Seventeen (scored by Atli Orvarsson) and also collaborated with Brooks on numerous projects, including As Good As It Gets and Spanglish. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is set to be released in theaters nationwide on April 28, 2023 by Lionsgate.
Zimmer’s recent feature projects also include Florian Zeller’s The Son, which just received an awards-qualifying release last weekend before coming out in theaters on January 20, 2023. He also has Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two (to be released on November 3, 2023) coming up.
