Leo Birenberg (Cobra Kai, Son of Zorn, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, PEN15, Secret Society of Second-Born Royals) has recently scored the upcoming comedy Mack & Rita. The film is directed by Katie Aselton (Black Rock, The Freebie) and stars Diane Keaton, Elizabeth Lail, Taylour Paige, Loretta Devine, Simon Rex, Amy Hill, Dustin Milligan, Wendie Malick, Lois Smith, Patti Harrison, Martin Short, Aimee Carrero, Addie Weyrich and Nicole Byer. The movie follows a 30-year-old self-proclaimed homebody who reluctantly joins a Palm Springs bachelorette trip for her best friend, when her inner 70-year-old is released and magically transforms into her future self. Paul Welsh & Madeline Walter wrote the screenplay. Keaton is also producing the project with Alex Saks (The Florida Project, Book Club), Stephanie Heaton-Harris, Jina Panebianco (A Nice Girl Like You) and Dori A. Rath (Pig). Mack & Rita will be released in theaters nationwide on August 12 by Gravitas Ventures as the first title of its new theatrical release label, Gravitas Premiere. Birenberg’s other recent projects include Billy Porter’s Anything’s Possible (to premiere on July 22 on Amazon Prime) and Netflix’s Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which will return for its final season on July 21.
