Christopher Stracey (Maid) & hip-hop artist Mato Wayuhi (Reservation Dogs) have teamed up to score the upcoming drama War Pony. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actress Riley Keough and Gina Gammell (Manodrome) and stars Jojo Bapteise Whiting and LaDainian Crazy Thunder. The movie is based on real events and tells the interlocking stories of two Lakota boys growing up on Pine Ridge Reservation in the U.S. Keough and Gammell also co-wrote the screenplay with Bill Reddy and Franklin Sioux Bob. They are also producing the project with Willi White, Ryan Zacarias (A Chiara, Bull) and Bert Hamelinck & Sacha Ben Harroche (The Rider, Sound of Metal). War Pony will premiere this month at the 2022 Cannes Festival.
Stracey’s other recent projects include the comedy drama Cha Cha Real Smooth, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in select theaters and debut on Apple TV+ on June 17.
