Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The King’s Speech, The Queen) has composed the original music for the upcoming World War I drama Father & Soldier (Tirailleurs). The film is directed by Mathieu Vadepied (Learn by Heart) and stars Omar Sy, Alassane Diong and Jonas Bloquet. The Franco-Senegalese production tells the story of Bakary Diallo, a father who enlists in the French army to join his 17-year-old son who has been forcibly recruited. Vadepied co-wrote the screenplay with Olivier Demangel (Atlantics). Sy is also producing the Unité and Korokor production with Bruno Nahon (Les invisibles, Louise Wimmer). Father & Soldier will premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival as the opening night film of the Un Certain Regard section.
Desplat’s other upcoming projects include Michel Hazanavicius’ Final Cut (also premiering at Cannes), Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, Stephen Frears’ The Lost King, Roman Polanski’s The Palace and Rebecca Miller’s She Came to Me.
