This week, Ian Hultquist and Drum & Lace (Dickinson, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Dickinson, Night Teeth, Good Girls) have been recording their score for the upcoming romantic comedy Rosaline. The film is directed by Karen Maine and stars Kaitlyn Dever, Kyle Allen, Isabela Merced, Minnie Driver, Christopher McDonald and Bradley Whitford. The movie is based on Rebecca Serle’s 2010 novel When You Were Mine. The movie is being described as a comedic retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, told from the perspective of Juliet’s cousin, Rosaline, who happens to be Romeo’s ex. Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber (The Fault in Our Stars, (500) Days of Summer) wrote the screenplay. 21 Laps Entertainment’s Shawn Levy (Free Guy, Real Steel) & Dan Cohen (Stranger Things, Shadow and Bone) are producing 20th Century Studios production. Hultquist has previously scored Maine’s first feature, Yes, God, Yes. Rosaline will premiere this year on Hulu.
As previously reported, Hultquist’s & Drum & Lace’s other upcoming projects as co-composers include the Netflix romantic comedy Plus/Minus starring Lili Reinhart.
