Sony Pictures Classics announced today that baritone Andrè Schuen and pianist Daniel Heide will perform the soundtrack of the upcoming animated film adaptation of Franz Schubert’s classical song cycle Winterreise, The movie, entitled A Winter’s Journey, is directed by Alex Helfrecht (The White King) and features the voice talent of John Malkovich, Jason Isaacs, Gabriella Moran, Marcin Czarnik, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Martina Gedeck. Deutsche Grammophon will release the soundtrack album for the film, which blends live action with CGI and painted animation and follows an itinerant lovelorn poet who undertakes a hazardous walk across mountains, ice, and snow. Jörg Tittel & Philip Munger (The White King) are producing the project for Oiffy, alongside Sean Bobbitt & Hugh Welchman (Loving Vincent) for BreakThru Films, Reinhard Brundig (Only Lovers Left Alive) for Pandora Film, Benoît Roland (The East) for Wrong Men North, as well as Raphaël Berdugo (The Other Son), Alexis Perrin (Cities of Last Things) and Richard Mansell (Tiger House). A Winter’s Journey will start shooting this June in Wrocław, Poland and will be distributed in the U.S. and other markets by Sony Pictures Classics.
