Deadline is reporting that Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Justin Tranter will write and produce new music for the upcoming Paramount+ original series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. The show developed by Annabel Oakes is a prequel to 1978’s hit feature Grease and will highlight the rise of the original four Pink Ladies – Rizzo, Jan, Marty and Frenchy – long before they had to whip into shape the clean-cut new girl from Australia. Oakes is also executive producing the Paramount Television production with Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen (The Fault in Our Stars, The Maze Runner) & Adam Fishbach (Narcos, Love, Victor) and Picturestart’s Erik Feig (Step Up, I Know What You Did Last Summer). Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is expected to premiere in 2022 on Paramount+.
As previously reported, Tranter is also contributing original songs for the Netflix original film Purple Hearts, which is also expected to premiere next year.
