Nico Muhly (The Reader, Margaret, Kill Your Darlings, Howards End, Joshua, How to Talk to Girls at Parties) has composed the original score for the upcoming drama The Humans. The film is written and directed by Stephen Karam (Speech & Debate) based on his Tony Award-winning play of the same title and stars Steven Yeun, Beanie Feldstein, Amy Schumer, Richard Jenkins, Jayne Houdyshell and June Squibb. The movie revolves around a working-class family bound by tradition, contention, and unshakable loyalties. Karam is also producing the A24 production with Louise Lovegrove. Muhly has previously collaborated with the director on the chamber opera Dark Sisters and also contributed music to the Karam-scripted feature 2018 feature The Seagull. The Humans will premiere next week at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival.
Muhly’s recent scoring projects also include Sara Colangelo’s Worth, which will premiere on Netflix this Friday, September 3.
