Maurizio Malagnini (Call the Midwife, Peter and Wendy, The C Word, The Paradise) has been hired to score the upcoming feature Coppelia. The film, which combines animation and live action dance, is directed by Jeff Tudor, Steven de Beul & Ben Tesseur and stars Michaela DePrince, Daniel Camargo, Sasha Mukhamedov, Vito Mazzeo, Irek Mukhamedov and Dame Darcey Bussell. The movie based on the classic ballet of the same title is a modern retelling of the love story between Swan and Franz, jeopardized by cosmetic surgeon Dr. Coppelius and his uncannily beautiful protégé Coppelia. Director of Dutch National Ballet Ted Brandsen serves as the choreographer. The project is produced by animation studio Submarine (Undone) and 3 Minutes West, and co-produced by MotionWorks and Lunanime. Coppelia has recently been picked up by Shout! Studios for a domestic release in late 2021 and will also be coming out in other markets around the same time.
Malagnini also continues to score BBC’s Call the Midwife, which will return for a Christmas special later this month and its tenth season in 2021.
