Tom Hodge (McMafia, Rise of the Nazis, The Man Behind the Microphone) has composed the original score for the upcoming thriller The Mauritanian. The film is directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void) and stars Tahar Rahim, Jodie Foster, Shailene Woodley, Benedict Cumberbatch and Zachary Levi. The movie is based on Mohamedou Ould Slahi’s memoir Guantánamo Diary and centers on detainee at the U.S military’s Guantanamo Bay detention center a who languishes in prison for years without charge or trial until he finds allies in a defense attorney and her associate. Michael Bronner, Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani (Informer) wrote the screenplay. Cumberbatch is also producing the BBC Film production with Adam Ackland (Patrick Melrose, The Courier), Leah Clarke, Lloyd Levin (Watchmen, Boogie Nights), Beatriz Levin (Da 5 Bloods), Mark Holder & Christine Holder (Walter, The Outsider), Branwen Prestwood Smith and Michael Bronner. The Mauritanian is set to be released in U.S. theaters on February 19, 2021 by STX Entertainment.
Hodge’s other upcoming projects include Christian Schwochow’s German drama Je Suis Karl, which is expected to premiere next year.
