Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, V for Vendetta, Darkest Hour, Anna Karenina, Bumblebee) has been tapped to score the upcoming family drama A Boy Called Christmas. The film is directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember, Poltergeist) and stars Jim Broadbent, Zoe Colletti, Toby Jones, Sally Hawkins, Michiel Huisman, Henry Lawfull, Rune Temte, Indica Watson and Kristen Wiig. The movie is based on the bestselling book by Matt Haig and tells the story of an ordinary young boy who sets out on an extraordinary adventure into the snowy north in search of his father who is on a quest to discover the fabled village of the elves. Kenan also co-wrote the screenplay with Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel). Graham Broadbent & Pete Czernin (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, In Bruges, Emma) are producing the Studiocanal and Blueprint Pictures production. A Boy Called Christmas is set to be released theatrically in the UK and other markets this holiday season and will debut in the U.S. on Netflix.

Marianelli’s other recent projects include Marc Munden’s The Secret Garden, which is set to be released in the U.S. on VOD on August 7 by STX Entertainment.
