Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Straight Outta Compton, The Greatest Showman, Lady and the Tramp) has been tapped to score the upcoming sci-fi fantasy drama Spontaneous. The film marks the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Brian Duffield (Jane Got a Gun, Insurgent, The Babysitter) and stars Katherine Langford, Charlie Plummer, Hayley Law, Piper Perabo, Rob Huebel, Yvonne Orji, Chris Shields, Laine MacNeil, Clive Holloway and Bzhaun Rhoden. The movie is based on the YA novel of the same name by Aaron Starmer and centers on a teenager whose life is forever changed when students in her senior class explode for no discernible reason. Matt Kaplan (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Before I Fall) and Max Siemers are producing the project for Awesomeness Films, alongside Nicki Cortese (You Get Me) for Jurassic Party Productions. Spontaneous is expected to be released in 2020.
Trapanese also has recently scored the comedy thriller Happily written and directed by BenDavid Grabinski (Are You Afraid of the Dark?) and starring Joel McHale, Kerry Bishe, Natalie Zea, Paul Scheer, Natalie Morales, Jon Daly, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Shannon Woodward, Charlyne Yi, Breckin Meyer, Brea Grant and Al Madrigal. The movie follows a happily married couple whose life turns upside down after an unexpected visit from a mysterious stranger. Nancy Leopardi and Ross Kohn are producing the project for Indy Entertainment, alongside Jack Black and Spencer Berman for Electric Dynamite. Happily is also expected to premiere next year.
