The Newton Brothers (The Haunting of Hill House, Ouija: Origin of EvilLife of Crime, Oculus, Detachment) have taken over scoring duties on the upcoming supernatural thriller reboot of The Grudge. The film is written and directed by Nicolas Pesce (Piercing) and stars Andrea Riseborough, John Cho, Demián Bichir, Jacki Weaver, Betty Gilpin and Lin Shaye. The movie based on the 2002 Japanese feature Ju-on: The Grudge and the 2004 U.S. remake (scored by Christopher Young) revolves around a house that is haunted by a vengeful ghost that curses those who enter it…with a violent death. Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Evil Dead) and Rob Tapert (Don’t BreatheSpartacus) are producing the Ghost House and Good Universe production. Cristobal Tapia de Veer has originally been hired to score the movie. The Grudge will be released on January 3, 2020 by Sony Pictures.

The composers also have Mike Flanagan’s The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep (to be released on November 8, 2019) coming up. They have also recently scored the Gary Oldman-starring supernatural thriller Mary, which will be released in select theaters and on VOD on October 11 by RLJ Entertainment.
