91st Academy Awards Nominations Announced

oscars9 This morning, the nominations for the 91st Academy Awards were announced. Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2018 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, February 24, 2019, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center and televised live on the ABC Television Network. Here are the music-related nominations:

Best Original Score:

      • BlacKkKlansman – Terence Blanchard
      • Black Panther – Ludwig Goransson
      • If Beale Street Could Talk – Nicholas Britell
      • Isle of Dogs – Alexandre Desplat
      • Mary Poppins Returns – Marc Shaiman

    Best Original Song:

    • All the Stars From Black Panther, Music by Mark Spears, Kendrick Lamar Duckworth and Anthony Tiffith; Lyric by Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, Anthony Tiffith and Solana Rowe
    • I’ll Fight From RBG, Music and Lyric by Diane Warren
    • The Place Where Lost Things Go From Mary Poppins Returns, Music by Marc Shaiman; Lyric by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman
    • Shallow From A Star Is Born, Music and Lyric by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt
    • When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs For Wings From The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Music and Lyric by David Rawlings and Gillian Welch

    Among the score composers, Alexandre Desplat received his tenth Oscar nomination and Nicholas Britell was honored with his second nomination. Marc Shaiman has previously been nominated five times (three times in the Original Score category and twice in the Original Song category). Terence Blanchard and Ludwig Goransson are both first time nominees.

    No suprizes really… and not really the best choices as well. But it’s BLACK PANTHER year anyway, so it doesn’t matter how good the score really is. Beltrami should have been nominated for sure for A QUIET PLACE.

    So out of these 5 I go with Terence Blanchards fine score.

      Yes, I agree. Hurwitz was robbed! The oscars is about the picture rather than the music. The Academy voters did not like the picture. So, They are not going to to recognize hurwitz brilliant score! Anyway, Hurwitz first man won the golden globes and it is more about the music!
