(Article updated on July 23, 2018): Michael Stearns & Joseph S. DeBeasi are composing the original score for the upcoming survival drama Alpha. The film is directed by Albert Hughes (Menace 2 Society, From Hell) and stars Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhanness. The movie is set 20,000 years ago in Europe during the Upper Paleolithic period and centers on a young man’s friendship with a wolf. Daniele Sebastian Wiedenhaupt wrote the screenplay based on a story by Hughes who is also producing the Studio 8 production with Andrew Rona (Non-Stop, The Commuter). Stearns’ previous scoring credits include Samsara and One Eight Seven. DeBeasi has previously served as the music editor on The Book of Eli, which Albert Hughes co-directed with his brother Allen. As a composer, he has previously provided the underscore for Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper and scored several features and shorts, including the documentary Kidnapped for Christ.
